Professor Carrie Llewellyn is Head of the Department of Primary Care & Public Health at Brighton & Sussex Medical School, a Professor of Applied Behavioural Medicine, a behavioural scientist and a Chartered Psychologist and Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. She graduated King's College London with a PhD in Psychology as Applied to Medicine in 2005 and has since worked at BSMS.
Carrie’s research has had wide national and international reach and impact, and she is an internationally recognised expert in the field of sexual health. Her research has spanned both public health and primary care and her work is situated within the wider social determinants of health to provide and shaping evidence to support the reduction of health inequalities among those that are often under represented in research and those with stigmatised conditions.
Between 2018 and 2022 she was the Chair of the South East and Central (SEC) Regional Advisory Committee for the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Programme and since 2023 she has been a member of NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research (PGfAR), which funds collaborative, multidisciplinary programmes of applied research to solve health and social care challenges.
